It seems as if as long as there have been playgrounds, there
have also been swing sets. For years and years, children have
enjoyed playing on swings.
Of course, these swing sets have evolved quite a bit over the
years. They have come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but one
thing has remained constant – kids love them.
Here is a brief history and timeline of the swing set:
• The first swing sets were all handmade. Families who
grew up on the prairies often had swing sets set up n the back
yard for children to enjoy after the day’s work was over.
These swing sets were not only fun for the kids, but it was also
enjoyable for parents to watch their children. These were simple
sets and were made of nothing but wood and rope.
• Several decades later, rubber tires began to be produced.
And while these are of course meant for cars, that didn’t
stop kids from thinking up other imaginative things to do with
them. Who knows who the first kid was to take a rope and hang
a tire in a tree and call it a swing, but one thing is for sure:
it didn’t take other kids long to do the same.
• Titanium – With the advent of aluminum and titanium,
metal swings are now quite prominent. These can be found in the
backyard or at the park. These swing sets are pretty durable and
tend to last for a long time.
